Description: Jesuit ring with a round face (bezel) that depicts the crucifixion.

History:
Accounts written by Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century mention various goods that they traded or gave to Native Americans. Small brass rings were among the items discussed as having been given as awards to American Indians on Sundays for reciting lessons. These rings were also traded for food or hospitality (Hauser 1982).
